About Compress PDF

Compress a PDF to a target size such as 100 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or pick a low, medium or high compression level. It helps when an email bounces, a job portal rejects your upload or a scan is simply too heavy. Images are recompressed only when that makes them smaller, while text stays sharp. Everything happens in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded and stays on your device.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. Add the PDF you want to shrink.
  2. Choose a target size or a compression level.
  3. Press Compress and download the smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing reduce quality?
Only images are re-encoded, and only when that makes them smaller. Text and vector graphics are not affected. For a very small target, images are saved at lower quality or resolution.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is compressed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device.
Can I get a PDF under 100 KB?
Often, but not always. It depends on what is inside: scanned pages and large photos shrink a lot, while a file that is already small or mostly text may not go that low. The tool tells you whether the target was reached, and you can pick a higher one.
Can I choose my own target size?
Yes. Choose Custom and enter a size in KB or MB; the smallest target is 10 KB.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Yes, after entering its password. The compressed copy is not password-protected and its bookmarks and form fields are not kept, so protect it again if needed.
