Terms of Use
PDFont is free to use. You stay responsible for the files you process and for checking the results. These terms set out the basics in plain language.
1. The service
PDFont is a free web tool for merging, splitting, compressing, unlocking, signing or redacting personal data in PDF and image files. No account is needed. All processing happens in your browser and your files are not sent to us (Privacy). By using the site you accept these terms. We may improve, change or remove tools.
2. Your files and your responsibility
The files you process are yours and we claim no rights over them. In return, it is up to you to make sure you have the right to process them. In particular:
- Only process files containing other people’s copyrighted work, trade secrets or personal data if you are authorised to.
- Do not use the tools for anything unlawful, to infringe others’ rights or to forge documents.
- Do not try to disrupt or overload the site or get around its security measures.
3. Removing passwords and restrictions
The Unlock PDF tool removes an open password you know and copy or print restrictions. It does not crack passwords you don’t know. Such restrictions are sometimes technical measures protecting copyright, so only use the tool on your own files or with the owner’s permission. Ticking “I have the right to open and edit this file.” in the tool is your statement that you do; it is not stored and is asked again for each file.
4. Checking the result is up to you
We build and test the tools carefully, but every PDF is different. The service is provided “as is”, without any warranty that the result is error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Before you use or send an important file, or delete the original, open the result and check it, and keep your original file.
This matters most with the redaction tool: review the verification screen shown at the end, mark anything that was not found automatically (for example text inside images) yourself, and look through each page that was converted to an image. The final check before you share a redacted document is always yours.
5. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect damage, loss of data or loss of profit arising from using, or being unable to use, the service. This limitation does not apply to intent or gross negligence, or to any liability that cannot be limited by law.
6. Open-source components
PDFont uses open-source software and fonts distributed under their own licences, which apply to those components. You can find the list on our About page.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date of the current version is shown at the top of the page; if you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new terms.
8. Governing law and disputes
These terms do not take away any rights that consumer law where you live gives you and that cannot be waived by contract. If something goes wrong, please write to [email protected] first; most things can be sorted out directly.
