Where a 500 KB PDF is needed
Half a megabyte is a handy size for sending a few scanned pages by email or attaching a document to a job application portal, where long forms can reject larger files. It is also a comfortable middle ground when you want readable scans without a huge file.
Tip: a 500 KB file can hold about five to ten pages of grayscale text scans, or two to four pages with colour pictures. These are rough ranges; your own file may land well outside them.
How to use Compress PDF
- Add the PDF you want to shrink.
- Choose a target size or a compression level.
- Press Compress and download the smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
- Does compressing to 500 KB make the text blurry?
- No. Text stays as real text, so it remains sharp and searchable. Only embedded pictures and scans are re-encoded, and only when that makes them smaller.
- Is it better to scan at a lower resolution first?
- Often yes. A grayscale scan at around 150 to 200 dpi gives a much lighter file than a 600 dpi colour scan, so the compressor has less to remove. If you still need to go smaller, you can compress the result afterwards.
